1.0 out of 5 stars Watch out ladies, Nikon thinks this camera is for men only

By Roxanneon September 13, 2017

When Nikon created a team of 32 professional photographers to be the faces of the Nikon D850, they didn't choose a single female photographer. (google it) With so much talent across the board, you really have to go out of your way to do this today. I can't support a product or company that thinks I can't capture an image as well as a man.

Sergio12 hours agoReport abuse
This one must be one of the most useless review ever!!! Not everything in life is about gender politics. Just because Nikon didn't use a woman on their marketing campaign. The camera is either good or not, the gender, political or sexual preference of the person using the camera has no influence on how it works.

Yes, Roxanne is correct in regards to the Nikon Asian Ambassadors. The sad truth is that being offended by other nationalities not complying to USA standards is not realistic, and dare I say narcissistic of Roxanne. It's unfortunate Roxanne omitted (and chose to not act upon) the fact that Nikon USA Ambassadors include 7 females & 17 males - http://www.nikonusa.com/en/learn-and-explore/nikon-ambassadors/index.page

This does not belong on a camera review. Absolutely useless "review" if you could even call it that... which no, you can't. Go get offended on a blog or contact Nikon about it, Roxanne. Not on a camera review on Amazon... -_-

Your review has nothing to with the performance of the camera or Amazon's service. May be take your reviews over to your blog, if you have one. Or reach out directly to Nikon.
Your review conveys no value to what we are looking for here. Later Roxanne!

Your comment would have been more effective on Facebook or some other social media platform. On a camera review segment of an Amazon product listing, your comment has fallen flat and will continue to fall flat and not achieve the goal you had hoped for. This camera will sell very well regardless of Nikon's marketing efforts.

I understand why you are upset with Nikon. I agree that their actions were not acceptable, and they alienated an entire demographic of excellent, professional photographers. However, this is NOT the place to post your opinion of Nikon's management team. Your comment needs to be placed in a forum that was created to discuss Nikon's actions, not on a product review page. You gave one star to one of the best DSLRs ever manufactured, and it had nothing to do with the quality or performance of the camera. When people write reviews that have nothing to do with the actual product, it does nothing other than piss people off. Anyone who abuses the review system should be slapped so hard that their neck snaps. This is NOT good for your cause, and it gives customers inaccurate information about the product. Use a little intelligence and fight your battles on forums designed for this type of discussion. You're only hurting your cause when you post rants about the company on Amazon's product review page.

This review has nothing at all to do with the technical merits, features, or usability of the camera. If you want to make a political statement, take it to Facebook where your equally triggered snowflake friends and you can engage in all the corporate man-bashing you want. If you don't like Nikon, fine. But if you don't have a review that actually - you know - reviews the product at hand, then please take it somewhere else!

There are many, many venues for political manifestos. This one is for the provenance of art and technical excellence, or the lack thereof. Perhaps the author should consider 'Letters to the Editor' of her fav publication where the readers are more in tune with her need to rant. For the rest of us, we are looking forward to the moment when we can advance our passion, which is creating beauty, not hate.

Dixie Dixon is one of several U.S. Nikon Ambassadors who are female. She is a highly regarded Artist specializing in fashion and beauty photography.
In North America and Western Europe photography is equally appreciated as a vocation and hobby by men and woman, however in much of the world, cultural differences create difficulties for woman in all professional fields including photography. Because of the bias against professional women in many parts of the world it is more difficult to find woman who are as professionally accomplished as their male counterparts. Also for the same reason purchasing expensive gear for hobby use is more difficult for woman in these areas.

For one, this claim isn't even true, Nikon has on hand a female photographer that was able to shoot and use this particular camera body before it was even released! Her name specifically is Dixie! They use her reviews/insight on multiple occasions..this review is completely bogus and it just seems like a canon hater with very little to nothing to brag about.

Sigh. This is commentary of the company's marketing campaign and not of the camera itself. Did you or have you posted negative reviews about the 105 f1.4, the 70-200, and the 24-70 lenses that were attached to the body as well? Dixie Dixion and Snapchick were both heavily promoted using the camera with first look videos, Fstopper exclusive articles, Nikon Live, and B&H Live streams. With all due respect this non-review 'Review' should be removed.

Roxanne, thank you for posting this. I checked the Nikon site and I also saw the 32 male photographers and no women. I don't know why there are no women, but my guess would be Asian culture which is more male centric than what you find in the US. So different cultures could explain this. Have you seen Snapchick on Youtube? She clearly demonstrates women are just as capable as men when it comes to photography. Hopefully this will motivate you to exceed in you hobby or career.

Well congratulations! You posted your review using erroneous information and never having seen the camera. I also watched the Dixie Dixon review and besides hearing her comments on the D850 I gained from seeing a few examples of her photography. What a talented lady! It is obvious why Nikon has made her one of their ambassadors. I sure would appreciate it if everyone who posts reviews would do so after having seen and used the product. That would help me make an informed decision rather than having to read through reviews to sort out the ones that are content free.

Dixie Dixon. As you say, google it. Perhaps also note that the campaign you mention was directed at the Asian market. Make of that what you will (you seem to be pretty good at it). Nikon USA has an ambassadorial team of 24, being 17 men and 7 women; a ratio of 29% female being higher than any other brand's USA team. So, based on that fact, maybe you HAVE TO support Nikon. By your own logic.
